Why we built it
Tuition Log was built by a family of tutors. After years of teaching, we had all developed our own way of keeping track of students. One of us used Word documents. One relied on WhatsApp messages and scrolled back before every lesson. Another used scribbles in a notebook.
It worked, but only just.
Important details were scattered across different places—or kept entirely in our heads. The difficult part was not the teaching. It was remembering what happened last time, what needed doing next and which small things still needed following up.
Tuition Log was developed to solve a genuine problem from our own working lives, rather than to add another complicated system for tutors to manage.
The problem
One-to-one tuition is personal. Every student may be working on a different topic, book, piece of music, language skill or long-term goal.
- Lesson notes end up scattered across notebooks, messages and documents.
- Homework, resources and small follow-up tasks are easily forgotten.
- It can be difficult to see a student's progress clearly over time.
- Parent or learner updates create extra unpaid admin after the lesson.
- Prepaid lesson balances often require yet another spreadsheet or reminder.
What Tuition Log does
You write one quick post-lesson note in your own words. It can be tidy, messy or written as short phrases. Tuition Log then helps organise it into:
- A clear chronological lesson history for each student.
- A living memory snapshot of progress, strengths and recurring difficulties.
- Homework, next steps and tasks that need following up.
- A parent or learner update ready for you to review, edit and send.
- A record of prepaid lesson balances and payments.
The aim is simple: before the next lesson, you can quickly see what happened, what matters and where to pick up.
What makes it different
Tuition Log is intentionally lightweight. It is not a large tutoring-agency CRM, a complicated lesson-planning system or a machine for generating endless worksheets.
It is designed for independent one-to-one tutors who need a quick way to record what actually happened in a lesson and make that information useful afterwards.
You write the information once, and Tuition Log helps reuse it across the student's history, your task list and the update you may send to a parent or learner. That means less time rewriting reports, searching through old messages or trying to remember what you promised last week.
You remain in control. Nothing is automatically sent on your behalf, and every drafted update can be reviewed and edited before you share it. You can also edit or delete your records at any time.
Tuition Log is particularly useful for:
- Academic tutors
- Music teachers
- Language tutors
- Singing and arts tutors
- Other one-to-one educators with regular students
